Britney Spears Doc Director Who Helped Movement To Get Her Out Of Conservatorship Speaks Out After DUI Arrest

Britney Spears Defended By Restaurant Manager After Reported Wild Night Out & Erratic Driving -- What Really Happened!

Erin Lee Carr, the director of the 2021 documentary Britney vs Spears, which helped the #FreeBritney movement to gain momentum and Britney Spears‘ freedom from her conservatorship, is defending the pop star following her arrest.

As we have been reporting, the 44-year-old singer was arrested for driving under the influence in Los Angeles last week after she was caught swerving and speeding. Cops allegedly found an “unknown substance” in her car, which sources say is Adderall. It’s currently being tested to see if it has been mixed with other substances, like fentanyl, cocaine, or meth. If the pills don’t come back as pure Adderall, that could mean more trouble for Brit. The shocking arrest also comes amid a reports about her “erratic” behavior, which reportedly got worse following the release of her ex-husband/baby daddy Kevin Federline‘s tell-all book.

With all these recent developments, some fans who once pushed for the Britney’s freedom from her 13-year-long conservatorship are now expressing regret online. They even question if her conservatorship should have ended and if she needs to enter a new arrangement with a different conservator again. There is also just a lot of criticism online aimed at Britney at the moment — all of which feels “painfully familiar” to Erin.

The filmmaker, who uses she/they pronouns, took to Instagram on Monday to speak out about the Crossroads star’s DUI, saying:

“Watching the way people are talking about Britney again feels painfully familiar. Not long ago, we collectively realized she had been living inside what many of us believed was an unjust conservatorship. A system where people around her were financially benefiting while she was being controlled. That was real. That mattered. And it took a massive public effort for the world to acknowledge it.”

Erin stressed that Britney’s arrest doesn’t “validate” the abuse she suffered during her conservatorship. And instead of judging the Perfect Lover artist, she urged people to have more “compassion” for her right now:

“Recent events do not suddenly rewrite that history. They do not validate what was done to her. Britney is a woman, a beautiful and and insanely talented woman, who has been through more than most of us could imagine while the entire world watched. Maybe the lesson is not to swing from sympathy to judgment depending on the news cycle. Maybe the lesson is compassion.”

She then expressed that they are “rooting for her” and “always” will be, adding:

“And you should be too. @sarah_silverlake”

Well said. We are always rooting for Britney and hope that she gets whatever help she needs to live a happy life moving forward. Read Erin’s statement (below):
