Welp, don’t hold your breath for new Britney Spears music because it ain’t EVER coming!
The pop star hit back at reports that she’s teamed up with Charli XCX and Julia Michaels to help write her first album in nearly a decade. Taking to her Instagram on Wednesday afternoon, the 42-year-old declared:
“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!!”
Wow. No misreading that! She’s OUT! Sad!!

Interestingly, Brit’s not totally done with the industry! She’s actually been writing music for other people — something she plans to continue to do:
“When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!”
Awesome! That’s a ton of songs! We wonder if she’s behind any new hits!?
By the way, music wasn’t the only thing on her mind. The Toxic artist also used the post to clap back at theories her book, The Woman in Me, was released without her permission, noting:
“People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth … have you read the news these days ??? I’m so LOVED and blessed !!!”

It sucks to hear she’s truly done with releasing her own music, but we get it! She was forced to work so hard during her conservatorship, something she’s admitted caused her a lot of “trauma.” So if working behind the scenes is better for her, we can’t fault her! She will be missed in the music biz, though!
