Record Scratch! Britney Spears Will NOT Stop Paying Kevin Federline Child Support… Yet – Here’s Why!

Welp. Britney Spears‘ youngest son Jayden James may be 18 as of today, but she’s not done paying child support to Kevin Federline! Not QUITE yet, at least!

Soon after DailyMail.com reported that the pop star had finished paying her ex-husband, a source told TMZ that she’s not out of the woods yet! According to their sources on Thursday, the original child support order in the divorce noted that payments would stop either on the child’s 18th birthday OR when he graduates high school. The key thing is that it would be determined by whatever came later.

And while Jayden may be a legal adult now after turning 18, he has NOT finished high school. The outlet was told that he will be graduating early in November, so THAT is when his momma will get to stop paying child support. So close!

The outlet also pointed out that the original support was set at $20,000 a month, but in 2018, it was hiked up to $40,000 a month because the DJ insisted that he had the kids pretty much 24/7 and was dealing with additional expenses due to their age. While Britney was seemingly paying this higher price for a while, TMZ insiders claimed she suddenly cut the child support payments in half last month without informing the dancer’s team. Naturally, this triggered legal drama. Kevin’s camp threatened to take the matter to court, where they felt a judge would grant him way more than half the amount of child support they had already agreed on because of the aforementioned expenses.

Ultimately, the exes were able to resolve the issue without a lawsuit. They agreed to revert back to the $20,000 a month and the singer also paid a significant amount of money to address the unnamed fixed expenses. Whoa. Now, she’ll just have to handle two more months of $20K and then this will all be behind her! Almost there!

FWIW, it’s unclear why she dramatically cut the payments in half, but the former couple’s eldest son Sean Preston turned 18 last year on September 14. So, maybe she was trying to account for that?? Either way, it seems like she won this battle by eventually having to pay less. This is also a lot better than Kevin trying to fight for child support payments to last several more years — which could have been the case due to his move to Hawaii!
