Nicholas Brendon didn’t have the best things to say about Sarah Michelle Gellar before he died…
Less than a week before the 54-year-old actor passed away, he went live on Facebook on March 14 to talk to fans — and threw massive shade at his former Buffy The Vampire Slayer co-star! While repeatedly rocking back and forth in a chair outside of what appeared to be his home and coughing, Nicholas blamed Sarah for how the beloved series ended, saying:
“I believe that the way that the show ended shouldn’t have ended the way that it did. Sarah [who played the titular character Buffy Summers in the show]… she worked really hard but she sort of f**ked the show, in a way. She told everyone she was leaving way too late into the series, so [creator] Joss [Whedon] was not prepared for that. You have an arc every season… it wasn’t fair to the crew, the cast or the show.”

Yeesh! Fans know Buffy stopped after seven seasons in 2003. In January 2023, Sarah told The Hollywood Reporter she wanted to leave the show by that point due to extreme physical and mental exhaustion, as well as the fact that she believed she had no more story to tell with her character.
However, the actress changed her mind when the show’s revival came around over two decades later. She was set to reprise her role in a reboot titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, but Hulu decided not to move forward with the project this month, leaving fans extremely disappointed! However, Nicholas didn’t seem too upset about the news. He made it clear that the reboot series shouldn’t have been made without Joss Whedon — despite all the allegations of abuse, bullying, and unprofessional on-set behavior! Watch the video (below):

Nicholas died in “his sleep of natural causes” days later, according to his family. Sarah wrote an emotional tribute on Instagram to her former co-star on Saturday, saying that she knows “you are at peace, in that big rocking chair in the sky.” We guess she didn’t see Nicholas’ shady comments — that, or she’s mature enough to want to honor him anyway, regardless of what he said.
