Yikes!!!
Greenpeace recently tested garments from brands like Burberry, Gap, American Apparel, H&M, and more for harmful chemicals, and the results of the tests led to a NASTY surprise!
EVERY brand tested was guilty of selling tainted children’s products!! One specific example is Burberry├óΓé¼Γäós metallic tees from Tunisia, which contain nonylphenol ethoxylates that degrade into nonylphenols and can disrupt hormones.
A Greenpeace East Asia Detox campaigner voiced the troubling implications of the find, saying:
“This is a nightmare for parents everywhere looking to buy safe clothes for their children. These chemicals are in everything, from exclusive luxury designs to affordable fashion, and from T-shirts to shoes. What’s worse, they are accumulating in our waterways, especially China’s rivers and oceans, leaving a long-lasting environmental mess for our future generations.”
To add to that terrible news, the shirt in question was modeled by Victoria and David Beckham’s little prince, Romeo Beckham, last year!!!
Hopefully he didn’t wear the shirt long enough to cause permanent damage!!
Burberry denies the harmfulness of the chemicals, however, and released the following statement:
“All Burberry products are safe and fully adhere to international environmental and safety standards. We have an active programme dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of our supply chain, working in collaboration with our suppliers and NGOs. Greenpeace is aware of our work, which includes the commitment to eliminate from our supply chain the release of chemicals that have an environmental impact.”
Fact, fiction, or damage control?
No matter what, this is a pretty big blow for all brands involved…
