Science is just so cool, especially when it comes to research that’s going to revolutionize cancer treatment!
So over the weekend there was a huge American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago.
These new “smart bomb” treatments are nuts, you guys.
They’re these dual weapons that combine antibodies and toxins. They’re linked together until they find specific cancer cells, and when they do, the link breaks and the toxin gets absorbed by the cell… destroying it.
The thing is, this isn’t an extremely new concept, but it’s the one that’s working REALLY well — it’s called Genentech’s T-DM1.
Dozens of similar “smart bomb” cancer drugs are in development, and there are even reports on one that’s going after certain types of lymphoma and leukemia from Pfizer that are going to be released in the next few weeks.
They’re hoping that honing these types of drugs will make them unstoppable… and they want them available in 5-10 years.
The cool thing is that when they put those numbers on timelines like that, things usually show up sooner!
