Earlier on Wednesday, Caroline’s family chose to release an unpublished Instagram post, written by the former reality show host shortly before her passing. As you may be aware, she left the show in December and was due to stand trial on assault charges in March after an altercation with her boyfriend Lewis Burton.

In the heartbreaking note, she wrote about how her “whole world and future was swept from under my feet,” and referenced her assault charges, stating that she “took responsibility for what happened that night,” but “was NOT a domestic abuser.”

Ch-ch-check out Caroline’s full message:

The cause of death being revealed comes two days after the moving tribute to the former host aired on Monday evening. Iain Stirling began the narration, set to beautiful footage of the island:

“We are all absolutely devastated by the tragic news that Caroline, a much loved member of our Love Island family, has passed away. Our thoughts are with family and friends at this dreadful time.”

He continued:

“Caroline and me were together from the very start of Love Island and her passion, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm were a crucial part of what made this show connect with millions of viewers. Like many of you, right now we’re all just trying to come to terms with what has happened. My only hope is that we can all try and be kinder, always show love and listen to one another.”

The 32-year-old wrapped up the tribute with his own message to his “true friend” Caz:

“Caroline, I want to thank you for all the fun times we had making our favorite show. You were a true friend to me. I’m going to miss you Caz.”

The show went further to make sure they did right by the former host. In place of traditional advertisements from the series’ sponsor Just Eat, promotions for the Samaritans hotline aired instead, emphasizing the message #BeKind. Along with the organization’s phone number, there was a message which read:

“Talking and listening can help, whatever you’re going through.”

In a statement, ITV and Just Eat addressed the broadcasted ads:

“In light of this weekend’s tragic events, Just Eat and ITV have worked with Samaritans to replace the idents for this evening’s episode of Love Island so that anyone affected by Caroline’s death can access support.”
