Casey Affleck Withdraws From Presenting Best Actress Award At This Year's Oscars

Well this was a smart move by Casey Affleck.
With all of the attention surrounding the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, the Manchester By The Sea actor has withdrawn from presenting the Best Actress award at the upcoming Oscars. In fact, he won’t be attending the Tinseltown event AT ALL.

Well, well!
As you surely know, tradition has made it so that, the most recent Best Actor victor presents the Best Actress trophy AND the most recent Best Actress recipient presents the Best Actor winner. That’s how we ended up with last year’s awkward situation. In case you forgot, Brie Larson (who won an Oscar for playing a rape survivor) was forced to give Casey (who has previously been accused of sexual misconduct) his award.
But it looks like Affleck is staying far away from the Hollywood event as Deadline claims the Gone Baby Gone performer doesn’t want to “become a distraction from the focus that should be on the performances.” Not to mention, we’re sure the 42-year-old was worried about being called out, the way many were at the recent Golden Globes.
Casey’s decision was really the only one he could make from a public relations standpoint. If he presented the Best Actress category, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would’ve been hit with an IMMENSE amount of controversy.
Also, it would’ve created an awkward moment for any one of the five women nominated who may’ve had to interact with the scandalized star.
