Whoa! This is crazy.
Film director Max Joseph is generally used to hanging out behind the scenes of his projects — but when he joined on as a host of MTV‘s Catfish with Nev Schulman, everything changed.
In a new Vulture essay penned by the 34-year-old reality star, he describes the various ways his life is different ever since signing a six-year contract with the show.

While he admits that he doesn’t mind being recognized at Starbucks or being the subject of someone’s Snapchat, Joseph said there are times when being a public figure is scary:
“A year ago I actually got cyberstalked by someone who called me from my wife’s number and told me he was holding her hostage at my house (using my exact address). It was a hoax, of course.”
Yikes! Considering his show is all about people using false identities online, this is particularly unsettling.
Joseph also recalls a memory with Ed Westwick where he felt rather uncomfortable — despite being a household name himself:
“I don’t yet feel comfortable reaching out to other celebrities or even going up to them. Are we in a club now? Is there an understanding? One time, my wife ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ who is typically the least starstruck person I know ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ spotted “Chuck” from Gossip Girl (Ed Westwick) and beckoned me to ask him if he would take a picture with her.
I was so nervous and bumbling that I didn’t even see his outstretched hand that he was offering me. He then proceeded to flirt with my wife before letting me snap a few pictures of them. The whole thing was very emasculating and made worse by the fact that he didn’t even know who I was. At least my wife walked away happy.”
That’s okay — Ed would make us flustered, too!
