Charlie Hunnam Can't Even Watch Fifty Shades Because His Experience Was So 'Traumatic'! Is THIS Why He Passed On The Film?

He may look tough on the outside, but Charlie Hunnam is still feeling the whiplash of passing on 50 Shades Of Grey.
We’ll never forget the uproar caused when the British actor was originally cast in the role of Christian Grey before backing out and being replaced by Jamie Dornan.

The Sons of Anarchy star previously said that he dropped out of the kinky drama due to scheduling conflicts, but now it sounds like there was a bit more to the sticky situation.
In a new interview for Elle‘s March issue, the 36-year-old admitted he hadn’t yet seen the finished movie because casting was a “traumatic experience” for him.
He explained:

“I developed a friendship with [director Sam Taylor-Johnson], but that was a somewhat traumatic experience for me. I didn’t want to open that wound.”

Well, that’s a very un-Christian Grey-like attitude right off the bat!
While it’s unclear what exactly kept him from taking the role, Hunnam hinted that he may have not been down to get too dirty while shooting the film.

In the interview, the actor also admitted to being “profoundly germophobic” since he was a young child — which still occasionally haunts him on the job.
Hunnam confessed that he became terrified of germs as a child after hearing about a parasite found on dogs that could cause children to go blind.
The English hunk said he still carries that fear with him today, which makes him “hate” some of the perks of being an actor, adding:

“Everyone thinks it’s great to be an actor and get to kiss a bunch of beautiful actresses in films, but I actually hate it. I don’t want to kiss anyone but my girlfriend for my whole life.”

Given the parts of Dakota Johnson the germaphobe would’ve had to put his mouth on in Fifty Shades, we could see how the casting experience was traumatizing for him!
