Chris Evans is in his husband era. Which may mean we get to see a lot less of him over the next few years…
During an interview with GQ published on Tuesday, the Captain America actor opened up about settling down with Alba Baptista, and how love has sparked a change of heart — and priorities. He told the outlet:
“I haven’t worked all year and I don’t plan to, which has been lovely.”
Last year, the 42-year-old shot three back-to-back movies, which he has no plan of doing again in the near future — especially now that he has a special someone to come home to.

That led to a very rare comment about his relationship — and how it affected his career. He explained how he had accidentally uprooted her life with his busy schedule:
“My girlfriend that I’ve had for a while, when we began dating… I was like: ‘Yeah, I do one movie a year. I try to never work now.’ And then, after like a few months of dating, boom, guess what? We’re living in Atlanta for a year. Get ready.”
The interview was conducted prior to his tight-lipped wedding to the 26-year-old earlier this month, just in case you were wondering why he’s referring to her as his girlfriend! But yeah, as far as overworking himself again, Chris firmly stated, “Never again.”
But does that mean walking away from Hollywood altogether? Actually… it’s not out of the question! He admitted:
“I could just make furniture for nobody and be happy. I don’t want to waste too much time in this industry, but that doesn’t really feel…. That doesn’t sound correct. I don’t want to occupy too much space in an industry that I’ve already poured 20 years into.”
Whoa! He sounds serious! Thankfully he’s not using the R-word yet. (Retirement! Heaven forbid!) But he does add that his life now is filled with activities that have nothing to do with his career:
“Sometimes I wonder if I’m lacking some sort of — like, I think I’m a very driven person. I have a lot of energy. I wake up early, I get a lot done in a day, but it’s not always focused on acting. Sometimes reading a script is the last thing I want to do.”
Wow. So unexpected.
But that wasn’t all Chris had to say about Alba. The Scott Pilgrim vs. the World actor added that his wife is quite the energy reader:
“My girlfriend’s really big into people’s energies and first impressions. I’m not so much, because I feel that I don’t always give off the same thing out of the gate. So I try to really reserve judgment.”
Well, whatever he was giving off when they first met must have worked. Because she’s into first impressions and still married him! But maybe it’s her interpretation of his energy that led him to realize he was doing too much? Hmm…
