Well HELLO, Captain Kirk!
It’s hard to focus on anything but Chris Pine‘s blue eyes that leave you weak at the knees – let alone the general supreme sexiness of all his other parts – but in the Star Trek star‘s new cover story for Out Magazine, he reminded us that beyond his boner-inducing good looks, he’s also an incredibly intelligent, open, and all-around cool guy!
And while we’re sad to report that he himself is not gay, he opened up about his close friendship with co-star Zachary Quinto, and how proud he was when the Spock to his Kirk came out back in 2011!
He explains:
├óΓé¼┼ôIt was something that I knew about Zach from the moment I met him. It was just who Zach was and that├óΓé¼Γäós that. I├óΓé¼Γäóm sensitive, and I don├óΓé¼Γäót ever want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Knowing that for Zach it was more about a career thing and that he was not comfortable at the time coming out — it was fine. It was something that we kind of tiptoed around and I just took it as a given, because that├óΓé¼Γäós what he wanted. [When Quinto came out, he was] so happy for him, oh man. I thought it was rad. It was really, really cool. He did it on his own time, on his own schedule. And Jonathan [Groff], who he├óΓé¼Γäós dating, is such a lovely man. He├óΓé¼Γäós a good guy and a great actor, and they make a fantastic couple. I couldn├óΓé¼Γäót have been happier for Zach.├óΓé¼┬¥
Aww! Seriously SO sweet!
And speaking of Jonathan, Chris ALSO revealed that he would have no problem playing a gay character, as he almost joined his friend’s boyfriend in Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming adaptation of The Normal Heart, until his busy schedule prevented him participating:
“I would have done that in a fucking heartbeat. Right now I just want to play good roles, and if the role happens to be a gay man, that’s not of any import other than is it a good story? Does it say something that’s interesting? All it really takes is the fact that the man isn’t going home to his wife, but has a boyfriend at home. I think it would be a wonderful thing to see.”
We VERY MUCH agree, Chris!
