Could there be more to the story behind the infamous moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock across the face at the 2022 Oscars? And does it involve Tupac Shakur? The comedian’s latest comments will make you wonder…
During Netflix is a Joke week, Chris sat down to chat with David Spade and Dana Carvey on their Fly on the Wall podcast. They asked him at one point to list his top five rappers, which shockingly does NOT include Tupac! And it’s all because Tupac apparently “didn’t like” Chris! 
According to the actor, he “rubbed him wrong.” They also often pursued the same woman, and Tupac “always won that battle.” Ha. Well… yeah. No offense, Chris.

Chris didn’t get into details about their overlapping romantic lives. But you know who Tupac WAS close with? Jada Pinkett Smith!
Now, she always denied being romantically involved with the California Love artist, insisting they were “soulmates” in a platonic way. But let’s be real. A lot of people never really bought that. Will previously insisted the pals never had a “sexual relationship,” but their closeness made him feel “deeply insecure”. But again, most people don’t believe she and Tupac were just friends!
So, it begs the question — since Tupac and Chris had the same taste in women, did the Madagascar star also date Jada back then? Or at least try? Was there a flirtuationship there Will knows about? Who knows! We do know that Chris once asked Jada out when rumors of her divorcing The Fresh Prince of Bel Air alum circulated. She made the shocking reveal in her book Worthy, which came out after the slap. She also told People:
“I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”
Then, Chris started making jokes about Jada when he hosted the 2016 Oscars after she boycotted the ceremony because none of the acting nominations recognized a person of color, including Will for his performance in Concussion. And we all know what came years later. Chris took another shot at Jada at the 2022 ceremony, who suffers from alopecia, making an insensitive G.I. Jane joke about her hair. Defending his wife, Will got up and smacked Chris on live television. Perhaps between the jokes and possible romantic history, Will had had enough by that night and exploded! This new confession from Chris has people wondering if that’s the case now!
