'Fresh Off The Boat' Star Randall Park Addresses Constance Wu's Controversial Reaction To The Show's Renewal!

Randall Park addresses constance Wu's twitter tantrum

Randall Park stands with Constance Wu… sort of.
In an interview on Variety’s podcast The Big Ticket with Marc Malkin, the Fresh Off the Boat star addressed his costar’s confusingly negative comments about the renewal of their hit series.
As we reported, the Crazy Rich Asians star sparked controversy on Twitter last month following the news that her sitcom had been renewed for a sixth season, writing how she was “so upset” about it that she was “literally crying.”
The expletive-filled remark caused social media users to scratch their heads, seeing as a show renewal is typically considered to be a good thing. Wu’s woes eventually became a running joke among other celebs who went on to tweet similar “upset” reactions after learning their shows had also been renewed.

Now, Park has attempted to clarify his on-screen wife’s remarks. He explained in the interview that many people on the cast and crew of FOTB thought their fifth season would be their last, sharing:

“I thought that last [season] would be our last one. Because literally the season finale was a bookend to the pilot. So, I think everyone kind of thought that and we weren’t sure if we’d keep going.”

As for his peeved costar, the actor said she was simply caught off guard by the news:

“[Wu] certainly thought that. She was in for a surprise, and we all were. But it’s great. There’s a lot more stories to tell.”

Wu walked back her fresh comments a day after tweeting them, explaining she was “temporarily upset” because the renewal meant she had to “give up another project that [she] was really passionate about.”
Like the 37-year-old actress, Park also had other projects in the works he had to give up because of the renewal — so he “for sure” understood Wu’s frustration. He added:

“I was prepared for it to not get picked up, and I was excited by these other things I could do.”

However, the actor also made it clear he’s super grateful the show did get renewed:

“But if it did get picked up I was also like, that’s all I ever wanted… All I ever wanted was a job and a regular job and to work with great people.”

Way to be professional, Park!

Not everyone on the FOTB crew feels like they’re working with “great” people, though — specifically, Wu, who sources dubbed as “the most hated person on set” of the ABC series.
One insider dished last month:

“Constance is the most hated person on set. She is rude to everybody, but most of all the crew.”

Another insider who has worked with the star backed up these claims, revealing:

“She’s a total piece of work. She thinks it’s OK to treat people badly and say out loud whatever comes to her. She’s the new Katherine Heigl, and if she’s not careful, her movie career will go in the same direction — downhill.”

Yeesh.
Good think Park is keeping a positive attitude. Otherwise, it sounds like the FOTB crew could be in for some fresh hell when production resumes for season six!
