Criss Angel Reveals His Son's Cancer Has Returned Following Brief Remission

Criss Angel has shared a sad medical update about his son.

The illusionist’s offspring Johnny Crisstopher Sarantakos was diagnosed with cancer back in 2015 at just 21-months-old, but after a brief remission, his acute lymphoblastic leukemia has returned.

TMZ caught up with the 51-year-old on Tuesday at the Los Angeles International Airport, where he revealed to the publication his 5-year-old would be heading back into a hospital next week to begin treatment again. He also shared that ahead of his admission, they’ll be doing some fun things in SoCal together:

“We’re partly out here in California because we take Johnny to Disney. I’m taking him to Universal tomorrow.”

The New York native added:

“He got diagnosed with pediatric cancer before he was 2 years old, he’s been in treatment for over three years, he’s been in remission, but unfortunately he had a relapse and he’s going back into the hospital on Monday.”

As you may recall, the Sin City staple documented his son’s battle in a documentary and launched the Johnny Crisstopher Children’s Charitable Foundation, which provides funds for research and treatment, plus raises awareness of pediatric cancer. At his first benefit event in Las Vegas, he raised over $1 million. Angel is also the 2018 recipient of the American Cancer Society Compassionate Heart Award.

While chatting with cameras, Criss shared plans to host another charity event at Planet Hollywood where he performs his MINDFREAK show and hopes to raise over $5 million. Details on the event are set to be released before the end of the year.

In June 2016, the former Angeldust frontman divulged to Us Weekly his young son was on the road to recovery:

“Johnny is technically in remission, thank God. I believe he will be healed. You always have to be optimistic. You always have to be positive. You always have to be focused on the good things. Life can throw challenges at you at any time and you never know what’s gonna happen and that’s what is life. It’s that you have to be positive and accept it as a journey, that it’s gonna have peaks and balance and that you’re always gonna persevere.”

The following year, the magician explained to the outlet how difficult it’s been on him to watch his boy in pain:

“I wish that I could take that disease and let him be free of it. No child should have to go through what he’s going through. He’s just a great, very bright, very happy boy that unfortunately has to go through a horrible experience. But he’s doing as well as he can do and he’s a really tough little boy.”
