Cynthia Erivo Addresses Rumor She & Wicked Co-Star Ariana Grande Aren't 'Actually Friends'!

Cynthia Erivo Fires Back At Rumors She & Ariana Grande Aren’t ‘Actually Friends’

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are pals! Don’t get it twisted!

Throughout working on Wicked and Wicked: For Good, the co-stars formed an extremely tight bond with each other! They were attached at the hip practically! We saw them holding hands on the red carpet, holding fingers in press interviews, breaking down in tears, praising each other, matching at events, and more! Looking at the years-long promotion for the films in a new Variety feature this week, Cynthia said she and Ari made a “really conscious decision” to nurture their relationship.

Despite that, rumors started popping up about their friendship! Fans thought they weren’t friends IRL! In fact, sources claimed Cynthia and Ariana “were never best friends out of the spotlight” and “never hung out when the cameras weren’t around.” However, the 39-year-old Broadway icon insists that couldn’t be further from the truth. Cynthia told Variety that the two still text each other almost every day, adding:

“I think that people didn’t really believe that we were actually friends. But that’s also because people don’t know me very well. If I’m a friend, then I’m a friend. If I’m not, then I’m not.”

Cynthia shared that throughout the intense promo for the films, she and Ariana helped each other out as much as they could:

“We were holding on by threads, and we were really trying to take care of each other.”

We all saw how well they took care of each other during the rollout! Cynthia literally jumped into action to protect Ariana when a creepy “fan” grabbed her at the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore!

But no one at home, according to Cynthia, has any actual clue what was going on between them at the end of the day:

“It’s very interesting, watching what people’s perception is versus what the reality actually is. Lots of psychologists seated at home deciding who we were, what we were going through, what we were doing and why.”

To make it clear: their friendship is, and always has been, very genuine! The singer went on to call the Wicked craze “its own storm in a teacup,” and that it “took over everything and – beautifully – changed my life.” Some would say possibly for good! LOLz!
