Clint Eastwood‘s RNC chair act has been spoofed by so many people, it’s not even funny anymore — unless one of Hollywood’s most serious actor’s decides to do it.
Daniel Day-Lewis, a two-time Academy Award winner who only commits to a few movies a decade, pretended President Barack Obama was sitting next to him while receiving the Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film at the 2012 Britannia Awards in El Lay on Wednesday night.
After Steven Spielberg presented him with a statue, the Lincoln star bowed toward an empty chair next to the podium and joked:
“I have to say, I’m so extremely grateful and glad that taking time out of his busy schedule, the recently reelected president of this country was able to make it here tonight.”
The audience LOL’d, but Day-Lewis quickly made sure to clarify that he wasn’t making fun of good ol’ Clint and continued:
“This is no satirical comment on him or his politics or anything else, but I have to say that when I saw him talking to a chair to a room full of strangers, I thought, ├óΓé¼╦£I’ve gotta try that. That’s a challenge.'”
Ha! Maybe Eastwood inadvertently created a new acting exercise that will be taught to students for years to come!
