Not only have too-perfect models come under scrutiny in the fashion industry of late — so have mannequins!!
Thankfully they can’t be offended because they’re not alive!!! Or are they!? Creepy!
Anyway. Last year a lingerie shop in Sweden embraced plus-size mannequins, which were an instant hit! This year American Apparel went for merkined mannequins, which were NOT as much of a hit!
And now David’s Bridal, the largest bridal chain in the U.S., is doing what Sweden did for future brides-to-be.
The goal is to make shopping for your big day a whole new experience, as David’s Bridal VP Michele Von Plato explained:
“This will give (a shopper) a better idea of what the dress will look like on her.”
Makes sense!
And if shoppers can see what a dress would look like on a more realistic model, it would probably cut down some of the trial-and-error time that goes into trying on wedding gowns!
DB’s old store dummies were around a size 6, with bust-waist-hip measurements of 36-26-36. The new ones are a size 18 and will come with more realistic breast shapes, along with natural-looking bulges in normal places.
Do U like the idea of seeing more realistically shaped mannequins in stores???
