Demi Lovato won’t let the haters keep her from losing her cool!
On Wednesday, the songstress released her new song Cool for the Summer.
While the track sizzled through the charts, already hitting No. 1 on iTunes, some fans thought the track was a little too derivative of other female pop stars like Katy Perry and Jessie J!

Lovato’s track features steamy lyrics about a summer fling with another woman:
“Got my mind on your body/And your body on my mind/Got a taste for the cherry/ I just need to take a bite/Don’t tell your mother/Kiss one another/Die for each other/We’re cool for the summer”
These lyrics were compared to those in Katy Kat’s I Kissed a Girl:
“I kissed a girl and I liked it/the taste of her cherry chapstick.”
While the two songs are similarly themed, the track also drew comparisons to Jessie J’s Domino! But Demi is unphased by her critics — she defended her lyrics on Twitter, writing:
@etnow sounds nothing like it and with all the advances we’ve made in the LGBT community…
