We’re getting SO CLOSE!!!!!
Last week, we were absolutely THRILLED to announce that the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to move forward with a bill THAT WOULD REPEAL THE DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT!
As a reminder, DOMA “allows states not to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states and provides a federal definition for ‘marriage’ that excludes same-sex couples.”
Now, we’re hearing that the push for a DOMA repeal is gaining strength in both Washington and California!
Washington’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee is showing his support for the cause, and according to his spokesperson, he’s referring to the DOMA repeal as “the next logical step.” WONDERFUL!
As for California, Governor Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee are urging Congress to repeal DOMA, and they’re referring to it as “a strain on our common values.” YES!
Here’s what Gov. Jerry Brown had to say about it:
“Californians in these marriages deserve to be treated the same by the federal government and other states as Californians in other legal marriages.”
This is all positively fantastic! We’re so excited to be headed so strongly in the right direction, and we CANNOT wait until DOMA is officially repealed once and for all!!!!!!!!
EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!
