You may have seen that in the wake of Matt Lauer being fired, Donald Trump couldn’t help but tweet giddily — not at the downfall of a sexual predator, heaven forfend, but at trouble on NBC‘s doorstep.
He suggested even more firings for the company, stoking his feud with Joe Scarborough, host of Trump’s former favorite morning show, MSNBC‘s Morning Joe:
So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the “unsolved mystery” that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 29, 2017
So… what the heck is this “unsolved mystery” the President is dredging up?
Back when Scarborough was a Congressman in Florida, a staffer named Lori Klausutis died in one of his district offices. Coroners determined she had a heart arrhythmia and fell, hitting her head.
But just as they did with Seth Rich, certain fringe right wing sites took advantage of the tragic death to float conspiracy theories that Scarborough had murdered the 28-year-old.
It’s disgusting, it’s undignified, and it’s fake news at its worst. Of course, it’s not the first time Trump has done this…
