Wow. You know some horrible things are being said at a rally when it takes over 24 hours for a joke about Taylor Swift being murdered to even move the needle!
Yes, we’re still talking about Donald Trump‘s disturbing hate-apalooza at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Amid Trump’s friend calling Vice President Kamala Harris the “antichrist”, adviser Stephen Miller quoting Hitler, and Tucker Carlson‘s “Samoan-Malaysian-low-IQ” remarks, one quote really stood out.
That was Tony Hinchcliffe‘s “joke” about Puerto Rico:
“I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. Yeah. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

The backlash to his vile racist comment was immediate and POWERFUL, especially from the proud Puerto Rican community. So much so, we never even realized he went after another group at the same time. The Swifties.

How? In yet another attempt at humor, Hinchcliffe joked about Taylor Swift being murdered. Yes, really. He quipped:
“I don’t know about you, but I think that Travis Kelce might be the next OJ Simpson.”
Get it? He’s not talking about rushing yards, it’s because OJ was infamously accused of murdering his blonde ex-wife Nicole Brown! See, it’s funny because it’s about violence against Taylor Swift! And they hate her! Get it?
Sigh…
Naturally when Swifties eventually heard, they were disgusted and infuriated. Many took to X(Twitter) to respond, writing:
“Did you catch the reference to Travis Kelce during Tony Hinchcliffe’s ‘comedy’ routine? Implying that Travis Kelce would become the next OJ Simpson and harm Taylor Swift? How utterly offensive”
“This is literally so nonsensical like there’s absolutely no comparison between Travis and OJ except that they’re both famous football players, literally the only intended joke is the hypothetical idea of Travis doing the same thing”
“How is that acceptable. Not a joke at all. All this material would have been approved by the Trump minders. They obviously found it acceptable. Sickening”
“He is attracting Tay Karma … and its no joke”
“implying that he will physically beat her AND THEN kill her. these people are crazy… and OBVIOUSLY sick in their heads if they think THIS is ok.”
“The part I don’t get is how’s it funny?”
That last one… That’s kind of the one to talk about, isn’t it? Because the big defense all these Trump fans keep coming back to is, “it was a joke.”
But like… how? We get that this guy is a comic known mainly for roasts, but roast jokes are like… ribbing someone about something they did, something embarrassing for them. Like, if someone said, “If Tom Brady is upset about Gisele cheating, now he knows how the entire AFC East felt for 20 years!” That’s a joke. It makes us feel insane we have to explain this, but see how that line refers to something we all know about Brady? The fact he and the Patriots were widely accused of cheating?
Saying, WouLdN’t iT Be fUnNy iF TraViS kELce aBuSed aNd MuRDeRed TaYLoR sWiFt? How is that a joke? What is that in reference to, apart from saying a vile, shocking thing? Why would that be funny? Just because they hate her?
Yeah, see. That’s the thing. What do Puerto Ricans and Taylor Swift have in common? They’re people Trump thinks poorly of. Hell, Trump actually posted, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Remember, this isn’t a Netflix special, this is more like when comedians get hired to do a corporate retreat, so they write a bunch of jokes about propane accessories and the CFO’s golf swing. He’s playing to the crowd. The Trump campaign is saying Hinchcliffe’s jokes don’t “reflect the views of President Trump.” But OF COURSE they do. That’s why a comedian is saying them THERE, on THAT stage. Literally precisely because they reflect the views of Trump.
Make sure that’s clear when you express YOUR views at the ballot box.
