As we get closer and closer to another Donald Trump presidency, there are some folks who really, really want to let you know not to vote for him: people who worked with him during his last presidency.
In a bombshell report on Tuesday, two sources told The Atlantic they heard President Trump complaining in the White House about his generals not just doing whatever he said. Like he was a dictator. Specifically, they quoted him as saying he wanted Adolf Hitler‘s generals. Both sources claim he said:
“I need the kind of generals that Hitler had. People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders.”
So many things wrong with that statement, but the number one we have to go with is looking to Hitler as a good example. Like, the lack of self-awareness there. You really want to be the type of leader HITLER was? History’s biggest monster?? That’s your role model??

Trump may not know how bad this is, but his team clearly do. His campaign spokesman Alex Pfeiffer told The Independent:
“This is absolutely false, President Trump never said this.”
But this isn’t even the first time we’ve heard Trump expressed the sentiment, even if the quote wasn’t spoken before. According to the book The Divider: Trump in the White House, Trump said something similar to his chief of staff John Kelly:
“Why can’t you be like the German generals?”
According to stories relayed to authors Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, Kelly responded by trying to educate Trump — telling him those generals “tried to kill Hitler three times and almost pulled it off.” Trump protested:
“No, no, no, they were totally loyal to him.”
Yes, heaven forbid someone badmouth the leadership of… Hitler…
Oof. BTW, Kelly later confirmed this conversation in an interview with The Atlantic. He also quoted Trump as praising Hitler another time, telling reporter Jim Sciutto for his book The Return of Great Powers:
“He said, ‘Well, but Hitler did some good things.'”
Sigh.
These days it’s more likely Trump will spew absolute nonsense about Hannibal Lecter or Arnold Palmer‘s penis… But ramblings from a rapidly degrading 78-year-old brain aside, we have to remember how dangerous this man could get if he is given power again. The man LIKES dictators. They’re the only world leaders he likes. And they’re the ones who like him — well, like using him anyway.
Oh, one more thing from the Atlantic sources?
Trump learned the government was paying for the funeral of an American soldier named Vanessa Guillén. But when he heard the total cost, he got angry and screamed:
“It doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a f**king Mexican!”
He ordered chief of staff Mark Meadows, “Don’t pay it!” And later he that day, according to a witness, he was still annoyed, saying:
“Can you believe it? F**king people, trying to rip me off.”
Great candidate ya got there. Like we said, the people saying all this? They were people who worked for him. These aren’t Democratic opponents or anything, these are Republicans who worked in the Trump White House. And they want everyone to know just how bad he really was the first time… and everyone agrees to a person he’d be worse the second time around.
