This sucks. This just undeniably sucks.
This afternoon, our government failed us.
The motion to reconsider the crucial National Defense Authorization Act, which included the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and get it back up for debate was shot down. The defeat was even more frustrating as the bill only needed 60 votes to pass and the final tally stood at 57-40.
As we understand it, two of the three Republicans who were on the “yay” side of the appeal ultimately voted no because of concerns of procedure and one Democratic Senator, newly-elected Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, broke from his party to vote no
We can’t really put into words what kind of a hefty setback this is for those who put their all into getting DADT repealed before the new year. We’re very saddened by the fact that equality for our nation’s bravest fighters is still being withheld by this ludicrous bill.
We’re sorely disappointed in our nation’s leaders, but send our thanks and gratitude to the 57 members who did take a rightful stand for equality. Thank you for your support! Please keep it up!
