In a recent interview, VH-1’s resident board certified addiction specialist, Dr. Drew Pinsky said that Demi Lovato’s decision to leave the Jonas Brothers tour after punching a female dancer was “a crisis situation.”
Although Dr. Drew has not treated Demi, when commenting on reports that Demi sought treatment because of bullying, the addiction specialist stated:
├óΓé¼┼ôBullying isn’t a psychiatric diagnosis. Bullying is very, very serious and it could have led her to have issues with food, but she couldn’t have been admitted to a treatment center because of that.├óΓé¼┬¥
The reasons that lead to her admittance beyond “emotional and physical issues” are unknown, but in the interview Dr. Drew sheds some light stating,
“This was obviously an acute situation that sounds like she is clearly in distress. For Demi to be admitted to a treatment center, she had to meet certain criteria, whether it’s psychiatric or substance abuse, or both.”
Dr. Drew applauded the young star in distress, commenting that her decision to seek treatment should “absolutely be commended” and that “hopefully she can move on from this and grow from it.”
We’re with Dr. Drew! Whatever Demi is seeking treatment for, the first step to getting better is admitting you need help! We just wish more celebrities would have the courage to get help before it’s too late.
