Sexism sucks, and we’re pretty offended by a certain Chicago Blackhawks hockey player named Duncan Keith and the things he said to a sports reporter.
Let’s set the scene: Vancouver just scored a pretty easy and flawless goal, so Duncan decided to hit the scorer with his hockey stick like a little baby. The thing is, there was no injury and no call on it. In fact, Vancouver still went on to win.
Duncan was pretty lucky to get that hissy fit in for free, so he quit while he was ahead, right? WRONG. Karen Thompson, a reporter from Vancouver, brought it up in an interview later. This is how he reacted:
Thompson: Can you talk about what happened after the Daniel Sedin goal?
Keith: Which one was that one?
Thompson: The third goal.
Keith: The third one? Well, we scored one after that I think …
Thompson: No, right after the goal. Right after he scored.
Keith: He scored. I went off the ice and took a minus. I don’t know, what are you talking about?
Thompson: Just checking.
Keith: What did you see?
Thompson: Well, it looked like there was maybe a penalty that went undetected. You seemed a bit frustrated.
Keith: Oh no, I don’t think there was anything. I think he scored a nice goal and that’s what the refs are for. We should get you as a ref maybe, hey?
Thompson: Yeah, maybe. I can’t skate, though.
Keith: First female referee. You probably can’t play either, right?
Thompson: [Laughing] No.
Keith: But you’re thinking the game like you know it? ‘k, see ya!
Ugh, really? That’s how you’re gonna to act??
You get paid LOTS of money to play a game for a living, and you can’t even be a decent dude who is happy and feels lucky to be were he is?? How can it be that anyone who gets paid to play a sport isn’t the happiest most honored and humble person ever??
How in the hell is this reporter’s sex a weakness when it comes to knowing a sport and seeing an OBVIOUS penalty when it’s committed?
The fact that she noticed it and the refs didn’t seem like she’s a bit better at it than they are! Maybe she SHOULD ref, as those other dudes didn’t cut it! Ha!
Grow up, Duncan. Nobody likes a sore loser (or a sexist).
