Elon Musk has made his priorities clear amid the ongoing coronavirus epidemic!
On Tuesday night, the billionaire tech mogul tweeted about how America needs to “reopen” its economy after weeks of businesses being shut down due to the government’s stay-at-home orders.
After posting news articles about plans to relax social distancing restrictions in various parts of the US, the country with by far the highest number of coronavirus deaths, he tweeted:
“FREE AMERICA NOW”
In another tweet that linked to a Wall Street Journal op-ed by millionaire T.J. Rodgers in which the 72-year-old claimed that lockdowns don’t necessarily “save lives,” Musk exclaimed:
“Give people their freedom back!”
Yup, Elon Musk is the liberator America needs right now, according to Elon Musk.
But Twitter users didn’t fall for it. Critics were quick to point out that because the entrepreneur owns several factories, he might be more concerned with getting his businesses up and running than what’s actually best for the nation’s health.
Twitics sounded off:
“Is Elon Musk going to work in factories and risk getting corona?NO. When billionaires say ‘free America’, what they mean is ‘let me make my minimum wage employees risk their lives so I don’t lose more money’. What a waste of space. #EatTheRich”
“AND just like that Elon Musk has gone full Trump, ladies and gentlemen.”
“Psst! Elon, your “stupid” is showing. I use to respect the guy, but this is one of Elon Musk’s dumbest tweets. Translation: “F**k the lower class. Get back to work and make me rich, bitches!” #ElonMusk #COVIDIOT”
“Sure “Elon Musk” wants to “Free America”. Greedy little f**k wants to make money just like the rest of the greedy f**ks. People like @elonmusk should go f**k themselves.”
““You don’t need ventilators.” ~ Elon Musk “You don’t need sick leave.” ~ Jeff Bezos “You don’t need to stay indoors.” ~ Elon again You know what this pandemic proves we REALLY don’t need? Billionaires. #COVID19″
“Elon Musk wants you to risk your life to make him money. He and the free america billionaires can go pound sand.”
One of Musk’s more vocal critics was Ariana Grande‘s mother Joan, who tweeted:
“How incredibly irresponsible of you…. and you think you are a person of science and technology… you’re a disgrace…. and now I have to get rid of my TESLAs… oh well…oh… and you clearly are not very smart! #BoycottTesla”
Others pointed out that while Musk might be a smart cookie in the world of tech, he’s made nothing but false statements and failed predictions about the COVID-19 crisis.
On March 19, the 48-year-old tweeted that “kids are essentially immune” to the disease, which is just not true. The same day, he insisted that new coronavirus cases in the US would be “close to zero” by the end of April; according to the CDC, the country is still reporting over 20,000 new cases per day.
When there’s a global Tesla crisis, we’ll come to Elon for advice. But for now, we think he should let the health experts call the shots.
