While most everyone has seen and most likely LOVES Julie AndrewsMary Poppins, it was recently announced that Disney would be reviving the character in a sequel starring Blunt as the beloved nanny titled Mary Poppins Returns.
But if you think that John Krasinski‘s wife is going to follow in Andrews’ footsteps, you’d be mistaken as the Brit admitted:

“We’re delving into the books a lot more, which is a different version of the character, I’ll say that much.”

Emily went on to admit that her version of the character is “a little meaner, yeah.”
(BTW, the differences between the books and the original film were documented in the film Saving Mr. Banks!)
Of course the film will most likely be successful — it’s Disney, after all — but it never hurts to have the original star’s blessing! The director of the flick, Rob Marshall, apparently got the chance to meet Julie as Emily retold the story:

“Rob said he was in the Hamptons, and he saw [Andrews], and he said, ├óΓé¼╦£It’s top secret, but Emily Blunt’s playing Mary Poppins,’ And she went, ├óΓé¼╦£Oh, wonderful!'”

The Devil Wears Prada star was obviously excited by the news as she shared:

“I felt like I wanted to cry. It was lovely to get her stamp of approval. That took the edge off it, for sure.”

The brunette beauty opened up a bit more about the role and taking on different a lighter role saying:

“I enjoy the challenge to be versatile├óΓé¼┬ª [but] I want to find the silliness again.”

Though the character will be a bit tougher, Blunt is well aware of the importance of the character saying:

I feel a little more trepidation with this [character] because she’s so emblematic of people’s nostalgia. It’s such an important character in people’s childhood.”

Awww! We’re sure you’ll do a great job, Em!
Mary Poppins Returns costars Lin-Manuel Miranda and is set to hit theaters Christmas Day 2018.
