Eminem wasn’t about coke or crack or heroin or anything like that. No. He was all about prescription drugs — and he thought the distinction between those hardcore drugs we all hear about and those that are socially acceptable was the best excuse to keep using them… before he realized that they were killing him!
In a new documentary called How To Make Money Selling Drugs, Em didn’t hold back when talking about his addiction to Xanax and Valium, among other things:
“Had I got to the hospital about two hours later, I would have died. My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything. They were gonna have to put me on dialysis. They didn’t think I was gonna make it. My bottom was gonna be death.”
Whenever someone tried to tell him he had a problem — even if it was a close friend — he would react like this:
“People tried to tell me that I had a problem. I would say ‘Get that f***king person outta here. I’m not out there shooting heroin. I’m not f***king out there putting coke up my nose. I’m not smoking crack.'”
So why did he change, then? Was it the death scare?
Yes, it was — and the realization about what you can no longer do once you’re dead:
“I’m looking at my kids and [realising] ‘I need to be here for this.”
We’re bummed that it got to that point, but we’re extremely impressed that he was able to fight it all back, and to do the things he said he would: focus on his kids, and his music!
It’d be a weird world without Eminem, that’s for sure!
Now if only he wouldn’t keep up with those violent outbursts in his songs, and find a more clever way to stay edgy, everything would be perfect! LOLz!
