Wow… what a powerful opening!
At the 2016 ESPYS ceremony, four impressive athletes (Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James), took to the stage to deliver a special message about the Black Lives Matter movement.

In the special message, the group talked about how important it is for sports figures to speak out on pressing political issues. The group also made mention of how they don’t condone violence — one member even went as far to mention that he has a family member serving in the police force.
Overall, it was nice to see an award show make mention of an issue that’s crippling America at the moment. Even though award ceremonies are fun events, it doesn’t mean that there can’t be room for bigger discussions.
