Sometimes it takes a hunk to beat a hunk!
Such was the case at the All England Club this week when 19-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios defeated Rafael Nadal in their 4th round match! That makes him the first player outside of the Top 100 to beat a world-ranked #1 since 1992!
And at a Grand Slam no less! Way to go, kid!
What’s even crazier is how close Nick came to not even facing Rafa because he almost lost his match the day before!
Kyrgios saved nine match points against Richard Gasquet after being down two sets! That means Gasquet had nine opportunities to win the match but this kid stopped him!
Nine times!
Prior to Wimbledon, Kyrgios’ best win was against 52nd ranked Radek Stepanek at the French Open in 2013. By beating Nadal, not only does he get his first take down of a #1, he also becomes the first player born in the 90s to ever beat Nadal!
Clearly there’s a new sheriff in town and he goes by the name of Kyrgios!
Unfortunately, Nick got knocked out of the tournament himself in the quarterfinals by 8th seeded Milos Raonic. But with his major victories, he’ll move into the Top 100 for the first time!
And with a shot like this…
We expect him to keep climbing those rankings all the way to the top!
