A farmer in Wales was found dead in the most horrific circumstances — just two hours after his family raised suspicions.
Islwyn Owen, 67, of Gwynedd was reported missing by his loved ones around 8:49 p.m. local time on September 4. It didn’t take long to find him — but it was not good news. First responders didn’t have to do much searching when they arrived at the farm where Owen was working. The poor guy, who was working at Cefn Bodig near the city of Bala, was found by paramedics in a slurry. In case you’re not familiar with farming, a slurry is a pit used to store animal waste until workers can gather it later and use as fertilizer — so a big pit full of farm animal poop. Such an awful way to die! Ick!

Sadly, Islwyn was pronounced dead at the scene at only 10:30 p.m. the same night. Authorities believe feared the man fell into the slurry pit and met his demise that way. There’s yet to be an official full inquest, but further investigations have been called off.

Coroner Kate Robertson said of the farmer’s tragic passing:
“Sadly, Mr Owen was found in a slurry tank, and confirmed dead by paramedics. I have reasonable cause to suspect that his death was unnatural.”
Local Councillor Alan Jones Evans added that Islwyn’s death “shocked” his community:
“Farming was his life. I would like to extend my condolences to his widow, Margaret.”
SO sad! Our hearts are with Islwyn’s loved ones as they grieve this unimaginable loss. May he rest in peace.
