The fashion industry has definitely seen its fair share of racism, and there are MANY people campaigning against that!!
Naomi Campbell and Iman started their Diversity Coalition, Jay Z is helping retailers battle racism in stores, and more!
Yet, designers still seem to court with racism on the regular — just last month, Chanel sent a ├óΓé¼┼ôCowboys and Indians” themed collection down the runway. This angered many who saw the move as a proliferation of ignorant stereotypes.
So Dutch designer Walter Van Beirendonck has decided to tackle the situation head-on…or should we say headdress-on?
He sent his models down the fall-winter 2014-2015 menswear catwalk in Paris last week wearing a glaring message spraypainted right where everyone could see it, and that message was: “STOP RACISM”.
Pretty sure the headdresses were no coincidence, and neither was the construction of the feathers up top. Looks like a middle finger to us!
What do U think of his not-so-subtle jab???
