Well, this is one way to cause an uprising on the internet!
Everyone knows just how ruthless fandoms can be when their faves are being attacked by another person or artist — and James McVey from The Vamps found that out first hand this week.
[ Video: EXCLUSIVE! Fifth Harmony Reveals Upcoming Tour Deets! ]
In an interview the boy band did with Australia’s Take 40 yesterday, the DJ asked band member Tristan Evans if he was still dating Fifth Harmony‘s Lauren Jauregui and his answer was fairly harmless.
He said:
“I was April to December.”
Which clearly meant the relationship didn’t last, we’re guessing it ended this past December.
However, it wasn’t his comment that sparked a Twitter war and the long lasting hashtag trend: #LaurenIsOurPrincess! It was James’ comment about the Harmonizer that set everyone over the edge!
He interjected after Tristan’s comment and said:
“We all had a bit of a go.”
We don’t know what that means over in Europe, but over here, it can easily be misconstrued to insinuate that all the guys dated Lauren!
But, Lauren didn’t take this lying down and neither did her girls!
They all went on their respective accounts and defended their partner in crime:

the amount of sexism and immaturity is astounding. a man will treat a woman with respect and stick up for her when she’s being disrespected

After feeling the backlash from his particular comment, James hopped on the Twitterverse to defend his remark.
He was apparently just joking, ya’ll! James said:
Ouchieeeee. Totally misinterpreted there folks… I’m sorry if people have been offended. I was joking that we all think that…

The band were all attractive, and we tried to flirt at the start. I failed, clearly. I meant we all ‘had a go’ at flirting.

So, what did we learn from this James??
Never to make comments that could easily be misinterpreted by fans all around the world! Or, you know, think before you speak?
