Former Football Player Texts Family To Send His Brain To NFL Before Suicide

So sad!
Dave Duerson, a former NFL player, committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest and sent a final request to his family through a text message asking them to send his brain to the NFL brain bank.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Duerson family for their tragic loss!
This suicide highlights the toll of repeated head blows and injuries sustained by football players during gameplay, which has been controversially overlooked by the NFL in the past.
It is believed that Duerson kept his brain intact for examination for a debilitating brain injury called chronic traumatic encephalopathy, known as CTE.
Boston University’s Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy, which has a donation registry for athletes to study effects of trauma on the brain and spinal cord, is expected to examine the man’s brain.
They have no idea whether he actually had the disease and will have no immediate answers either because the process could take months.
Check out the video clip above for more details about this tragic suicide and to hear a heart wrenching personal account from his son who recieved the text the night before his father’s suicide.
Once again, we wish the Duerson family the best as they deal with their loss, but hopefully his sacrifice will not be in vein and the NFL will take measures to stop this disease from affecting future players.
