#GrammysSoWhite?
While Frank Ocean released two of arguably the best albums of the year, don’t expect him to walk away from the 2017 Grammy Awards with many trophies…
As you may already know, the Blonde and Endless singer intentionally missed the CBS event’s September 30 cutoff date — and now he’s explaining his decision to follow in Jada Pinkett Smith‘s Oscar boycott footsteps!

Speaking to The New York Times on Tuesday, Frank admitted that while he acknowledges the Recording Academy‘s good qualities, he simply could not justify supporting their inconsistencies when it comes to recognizing artists of color.
In fact, he even compared his own Grammys boycott to Colin Kaeperneck‘s iconic National Anthem protests, saying:

“That institution certainly has nostalgic importance, it just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down. I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated. I’d rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.”

We’re inclined to agree.
After all, these are the people who picked Beck over Beyonc├â┬⌐ last year…

With that said, the 29-year-old’s interview wasn’t entirely about staying socially responsible — he made sure to get a few humble brags in there as well:

“I believe that I’m one of the best in the world at what I do, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted to be. It’s more interesting for me to figure out how to be superior in areas where I’m na├â┬»ve, where I’m a novice.”

We couldn’t agree more, Frank!
