Happy Friday the 13th!
No one knows how the day got its reputation for being unlucky. Some claim it’s biblical — Jesus died on a Friday and had 13 people at the last supper — but there’s no evidence of the superstition before the 19th century.
In any case, the fear is very real, so much so it even has a name: paraskevidekatriaphobia. (BTW, the fear of long words is called “sesquipedalophobia”…)
But Friday the 13th is far from the strangest superstition we’ve heard of — for instance, in at least one country, stepping in dog poop can actually be good luck!
