This is so great!
J.J. Abrams, who of course directed Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, is now on record saying there will be an openly gay character in the movie franchise for upcoming installments!!

Talking to The Daily Beast, Abrams said of the decision to add an openly gay character to the fold:
“To me, the fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility. So it seems insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.”
Yay!!!
Now, there have been other places in the Star Wars universe — like author Chuck Wendig‘s novel Aftermath — where gay characters have been introduced, but nothing from the film franchise… yet.
