Supreme Court Appears Split On Same Sex Marriage Debate!

gay marriage supreme court oral arguments debate
We remain forever optimistic that the world will wake up one day soon and realize all couples in love deserve the right to marry!
Sadly, that day wasn’t today!
The Supreme Court heard arguments this morning on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage and California’s super icky Proposition 8 law, which aims to suppress the rights of gay couples.
As thrilled as we are that the government is taking the discussion of equal rights seriously, there wasn’t exactly any consensus on what to do between the Justices.
According to some experts, it looks like the courts may strike down Prop 8, but do so in a way which would NOT broadly affect any other states and not really further the cause of allowing ALL couples to marry regardless of sexual orientation.
In short, there seem to be 5 liberal judges and 4 conservative ones, but none of them are looking to rock the boat too much in either direction.
When pressed, counsel against same-sex marriage couldn’t come up with one conceivable scenario in which allowing gay marriage would be bad for straight people, but they instead dodged the question.
Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, one of today’s more, ahem, rational minds, admitted:

├óΓé¼┼ôIt├óΓé¼Γäós the voice of those children. There are some 40,000 children [that] live with their same-sex parents. They want their parents to have the full recognition.”

Ugh!!! This is so frustrating!
Shouldn’t everyone who is devoted to someone else be able to experience marital bliss?
