Gayle King is reacting to her ex-husband’s apology!
In case you missed it, the CBS Mornings anchor opened up on Call Her Daddy this week about the heartbreaking moment she caught William G. Bumpus cheating on her in June 1990! His hooking up with someone else is already bad enough! However, the scandal gets worse because he cheated with her married friend! Awful!

After the podcast episode dropped, William apologized to Gayle and their family for the “pain” he caused nearly 40 years ago. He told TMZ:
“My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine. I have long owned them — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand. Gayle has every right to share what was a painful chapter that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family nearly forty years ago. I respect her right to tell her story, and that’s where I’ll leave it.”
How does Gayle feel about the apology? She’s shocked, but she’s also touched! While in New York City on Thursday, Gayle said to TMZ:
“I was surprised, but I can also say I appreciated what he had to say. That was a very painful time. But people need to understand that anyone who has been through it knows how painful it is. But I also know that you can go through it and get through it on the other side.”
We’re glad Gayle rehashing the drama isn’t hurting their post-divorce relationship!
