It has been a month since Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and one of their dogs were found dead inside their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home — and NO ONE has claimed the couple’s bodies yet!
According to TMZ on Thursday, the Office of the Medical Examiner in New Mexico confirmed that a list of unclaimed decedents was updated online on Monday. The 95-year-old actor and the 64-year-old pianist’s names appeared on the list on March 24, and that hasn’t changed since. TMZ reported their remains are still there to this day. What?!

Why haven’t any of their family members, including his three kids, claimed them? The reason is unknown. However, officials explained to the outlet it’s actually not so uncommon for bodies to remain unclaimed for a month following their death. The family could still be making funeral arrangements or finishing up other plans. It’s probably more complicated in this case as it sounds like his kids didn’t see him much.
We would hate to think his children, Christopher, Leslie, and Elizabeth, just left them there for over a month for no reason. Gene previously shared that he didn’t have a great relationship with them in the past, as he wasn’t around much when Christopher was growing up. However, he apparently grew close with them again later on. Yet not close enough to put them in the will, instead giving all of his fortune to Betsy. Oof…
