Good Morning America co-anchor Lara Spencer is apologizing after making an “insensitive comment” about Prince George‘s rigorous school curriculum, which includes ballet class.
During a segment on Thursday’s episode of the morning show, Spencer said (below) while laughing as sweet images of the young royal flashed on screen:
“He looks so happy about the ballet class. Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet. I have news for you Prince William: We’ll see how long that lasts.”

Many critics took to Twitter to vocalize their opinions about what the 50-year-old had to say:
“so extremely f**ked up of @LaraSpencer to make fun of 6-year-old Prince George for liking ballet on #GoodMorningAmerica this morning. WHERE IS THE APOLOGY”
“I can’t believe @abc and @gma still haven’t apologized or even acknowledged @LaraSpencer’s disgusting homophobic bullying of a six-year-old. What year is it? Hello. Men do ballet. I’m sickened by the ignorance I saw on #GoodMorningAmerica.”
“Ew, @LaraSpencer. That was disgusting. Dancing is an art and a sport. How dare you. You are officially cancelled”
“As a male professional ballet student, #laraspencer’s comments on Prince George taking up ballet is incredibly uneducated and toxic for boys starting a career in an art form that requires strength, technique and determination even as an amateur. You should be ashamed of yourself”

On Friday, Spencer shared an apology message via Instagram, writing:
“My deepest apologies for an insensitive comment I made during pop news on Thursday. From ballet, which I took as a kid, to anything in life you wish to explore, I fully believe we should all pursue our passion. Go climb your mountain and love every minute of it.”
However, many on social media have expressed their dissatisfaction with Spencer’s apology, demanding it should be on air instead of social media:
“Dear @GMA … I find @LaraSpencer response to be insensitive and her apology a cop out. Not good enough for me… is it good enough for you?? This statement needs to be made on air in the same forum she so freely judged and criticized.”
“@LaraSpencer You need to provide an on air apology and do a piece on male ballet dancers to Re- educate viewers. I have a 15 yr old who is strong and fierce and a talented BALLET dancer waiting on your call. I know MANY more like him. #boysdancetoo #boysdancemovement”
Do you think her sorry should be on air? Or was sharing it to social media sufficient enough?
