The reason The Golden Bachelor exes Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist‘s marriage could not go the distance was not only because of not being able to go the distance!
As you may recall, the former couple supposedly fell in love and got engaged on the debut season of the spinoff series. Their engagement aired on ABC, and they got married in a televised wedding in January. However, the marriage didn’t last long — even by Bachelor Nation standards! Gerry and Theresa announced three months later they were divorcing, claiming they could not settle on a place to live as she lived in New Jersey and he lived in Indiana.

Fans and even other members of Bachelor Nation never bought it. They were convinced there was a lot more to the story than just the distance, especially considering the stories that had come out about his treatment of women. Now, Theresa is basically confirming the suspicion. She told Almost Famous podcast hosts Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti this week:
“You really can’t know somebody in four weeks. I’ll say that. That’s all I can say.”
Sorry! But Theresa won’t further explain! Her lips are sealed on the matter! (We wonder if contractually…) However, she did drop this little tidbit:
“I don’t want to say any more than that. It’s not something I want to discuss at this point. It’s not just the location thing. That’s all I’ll say.”
If it wasn’t only “the location thing” as they said, then what else was it? What happened? Does it have to do with the rumored fight they had? Again, the reality star won’t say. However, she was willing to open up about the moving problem some more. That was a real problem. Theresa explained she and Gerry had a “plan” to move to Charleston, South Carolina — but never “found a home” they both wanted:
“I wasn’t ready to sell my home until we found a home. We never got to the point where we found a home. Gerry came up with the idea of doing six weeks there and six weeks here. I truly wanted to have our home together. I was willing to move. I wanted to have our big home where our family could come visit us. I didn’t want to go back and forth to our homes.”
They “had agreed upon” the Charleston move, though — but suddenly Gerry had other ideas. She added:
“It wasn’t what we had discussed. We had never discussed six weeks here, six weeks there.”
Between whatever other problems they had and the location drama, they decided to part ways. Oof. Although the distance wasn’t the sole reason for the divorce, Theresa said living closer might have given her and Gerry’s marriage “a better chance” to last! We wonder… She continued:
“You just think the world wants a love story and they want you to move. You don’t know how you’re going to feel until you’re really faced with that decision. It’s very difficult. I do want to be in love. I do want to be with someone. I think love is for me the most important thing and it’s love of family and to have a partner in life is what I want.”
If only the two could have agreed upon whatever home they wanted — and gotten to know one another better — before saying their vows! Things could have been a lot different for the Golden Bachelor couple!
And before anyone asks, according to Teresa, they did go into their wedding with honest intentions. It wasn’t all a sham, she swears. As for the TV wedding? She stressed there was a time limit on the offer, and they didn’t want to wait due to their age. So they thought why not and moved quickly with the nuptials with “faith and hope” the relationship would work out:
“They weren’t offering [the wedding] later. It was now. And we said, ‘If we really are going to get married, we should do it because we’re going to get the wedding of our dreams.’ We are older, why waste any time? Do it now. There was a time constraint on the offer.”
Hmm.
