Grammys 2019: Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars Spent On Extra Security, But Nobody Knows Why...

LAPD Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl Celebrity Break-Ins

File this one as a strange footnote ahead of this year’s Grammys, which take place later today on CBS.
According to TMZ, producers and execs in charge of the award show are spending a TON of extra money — reportedly hundreds of thousands of dollars — in extra costs this year to secure the Staples Center in downtown El Lay.

Per the reports, more than 50 extra police officers have been hired on for the event, as well as “extra fire inspectors and ambulances on hand in case of emergencies” — and that’s in addition to all the typical security and first responder personnel that typically staff an event like this.
Furthermore, sources say EVERY attendee — celebrities included — will be forced to go through metal detectors before they can enter the show — a notable departure from years previous.
And, if a celeb or musician has their own personal bodyguard who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, those permits won’t fly at the Staples Center; no firearms allowed on the premises other than cops working the event. Wow!

The weirdest part of all, though, is that no threats or anything have been reported this week, and it’s unclear why Grammys producers have suddenly started taking public safety so seriously.
Better safe than sorry, right?! Maybe so… but still weird to ramp up SO much security so late in the game!
Reactions, Perezcious readers?! Guess we’ll see what’s really going on when the show goes live in a few hours!!
