Gus Kenworthy Promptly Deletes Selfie With Caitlyn Jenner From The Birthday Party For Anti-Gay Leader's Son

Gus Kenworthy
Oof.
Olympic freeskier Gus Kenworthy posted — and then promptly deleted — a photo with his BF Matthew Wilkas AND none other than Caitlyn Jenner from the birthday party for the son of the Sultan of Brunei in London over the weekend.
Sounds normal enough, right? Well, not so much.
In case you’re unfamiliar, the fact that this trio was even at this particular party is causing a stir among LGBT activists as Brunei is a southeast Asian nation where being gay is punishable by death. Ugh!

A little background, back in 2014, Hollywood’s biggest A-listers even boycotted the Beverly Hills Hotel after discovering it was owned by Sultan of Brunei.
So you can see why it’s a little concerning for prominent members of the community to be turning up with the son of someone who so clearly is not accepting of gay people.
Blogger Kenneth Walsh reported the situation saying:

“Gus Kenworthy posted a photo from the queeny son of the Sultan of Brunei’s birthday party in London but quickly deleted it when he realized celebrating a member of a family that is looking to make being gay punishable by death isn’t something an Instagram filter can make look pretty. Enabling this “wealth can shield me from what my government is doing to my LGBT comrades” mentality is par for the course for Caitlyn Jenner, but I’d hoped for more from Gus and his actor boyfriend.”

The advocate later updated his original post, adding:

“Gus reached out and after some thoughtful messages back and forth, he expressed regret about attending the birthday party of Brunei’s anti-gay dictator’s son. Unlike the Sultan himself, I don’t think anyone is looking to stone any gays here. Gus is new to this, so can be forgiven for occasionally stepping in mud. But what I admire is that unlike Caitlyn, he shows a willingness to have a conversation and learn new information, which puts him ahead of about 45% of Americans. Onward, LGBT comrades.”

Talk about shade for the I Am Cait star!
Nonetheless, we’re happy to hear Gus is seeing the problem here.
