Halle Berry is finally talking about THAT famous sex scene from Monster’s Ball!
The Oscar winner made headlines over 20 years ago when she starred alongside Billy Bob in the drama for MULTIPLE reasons! The chilling story, her award-winning performance… but most persistently, the theory she and Billy Bob Thornton really hooked up during their onscreen sex scene! And now she’s addressing the rumor head on!
During her appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast on Monday, the 58-year-old brought up the famous love scene to quiet all the speculation once and for all. She stated:
“I do want to clear up something. This has plagued Billy Bob and I since we did that movie. We had this very explicit love scene. There’s an urban legend that we really were f**king. And it’s just not true.”
So there you have it! Halle and Billy Bob did NOT have unsimulated sex!
Dax said he believes her… but admitted he’s “perpetuated” the rumor in years past. LOLz! Halle playfully asked:
“How are you going to do that with cameras rolling?”
Well, people actually do it all the time. In fact, there’s a BOOMING industry that even Kanye West is reportedly keen to tap into… HA!
But seriously, there are non-porn films with unsimulated sex. 2005’s Lie With Me starring Eric Balfour and Lauren Lee Smith, 2004’s more experimental Nine Songs, and 2001’s Intimacy, starring Mark Rylance about a decade and a half before he won his Oscar. So it’s not completely unheard of. But NOT Halle!
The mom of two complained the rumor has “secretly driven [her] mad all these years” since the film debuted in 2001, especially when the focus should be on the cast’s performances — not salacious rumors spiraling out. Mocking speculators, she joked:
“You can’t just be a good actor, and you can’t just make that s**t look real. You had to really be doing it.”
LOLz! In some way it’s the best compliment, right? The sex looked so real, people couldn’t believe anyone could act that well, right? We guess that Oscar was well deserved! Ha!
But you could see why it would be a problem for the actors. Billy Bob was married to Angelina Jolie at the time… And Halle wouldn’t have dared to cross her like that! She told Dax:
“He had a wife … So, you know, all respect — I know Angie, and she ain’t signing off on that … And I’m a girl’s girl, I’ll do a lot of things but I’m not going to sleep with your man.”

The X-Men star also wanted to make it clear that she never dated Spike Lee nor Eddie Murphy, despite rumors. You can listen to her full interview (below):
Billy Bob previously addressed the sex scene rumors during a 2012 interview on Sway in the Morning btw. He said at the time:
“No we’re actors. We do the job that we’re required to do, and we were both very professional about it. It’s not like you can’t dream though … Halle’s a great talent and a beautiful woman.”
