Here we go!
Wednesday afternoon, The House voted 250-175 to repeal the don’t ask, don’t tell policy! This gives Senate one last chance to end the ridiculous and unfair policy that ostracizes openly gay men and women from the armed forces before the year is out.
We’re told Democratic leaders in the Senate are prepared to fight to get the bill onto the floor before they are adjourned for the holidays. The rush, besides the fact that it’s an unconstitutional law, is due to the fact that come 2011, the policy could get lost as the Republicans, who are far less supportive of openly gay individuals in the military, will be taking over the House and the Senate. They’ll almost for certain put the issue on the back burner!
We can’t let that happen! As Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado said today:
“[DADT] is the only law in the country that requires people to be dishonest or be fired if they choose to be honest.”
We’re crossing our fingers, Senate! We’re rooting for a change! Let’s ring in the new year with a kinder, more accepting outlook on life and liberty!
Equality for all!
