**SPOILER ALERT AHEAD – ALTHOUGH IF YOU HAVEN’T HEARD ABOUT THE SERIES FINALE YET, WE APPLAUD YOUR INTERNET AVOIDANCE EFFORTS**
We KNOW fans are still recovering from the explosive ending to How I Met Your Mother‘s nine seasons…
And while most feel like the finale was salt in the wound torturous, Ted Mosby (aka Josh Radnor) is ready to speak out about the final episode – and how the title was a fan fake-out the entire series!
BOOM, roasted!
The 39-year-old actor explained:
“I thought the title of the show was always a bit of a fake-out. It was more of a hook to hang the thing on. Really it was more about, these are the crazy adventures and these are the lessons I had to learn before I met your mother.”
As we all know, Ted ends up with his ex-girlfriend Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) – which sent fans into an outrage because they had been lied to for so many years!
But even with their brash reactions, Josh loved where the ending of the series left his character:
“I think if you’re going to do something new and bold and daring, you’re going to upset some people and you’re going to thrill others. I think it’s better to do that than try to have some homogenized, safe ending that was never really what the show was. The show was always bold and daring and questioning assumptions and leading you where you thought you didn’t want to go, but realized at the end that that was where you belonged. I’m a fan of the finale and obviously I’m a fan of the show.”
He also stresses that his on-screen kids were so understanding of the end, because they had 6 years to process the info.
Josh believes when the dust settles, people will be much more accepting of the sign off:
“I think people are having to deal with grief on a number of levels. There’s grief in the episode, but then there’s grief at letting the show go. People are in various Kubler-Ross stages of grieving, and when they contextualize it and step back and maybe even watch the finale again or revisit the show, I think when the dust settles, people will feel pretty complete.”
It’s so hard though!!
Fans were super attached to the characters, so we know it will take them significant time to move on.
