Following her botched cosmetics debacle and an episode of mysteriously deactivated social media accounts, Jaclyn Hill is back on YouTube, but not necessarily ready to address the problems at hand.
In case you need a refresher: the beauty YouTuber initially defended her products when people questioned the quality of her lipsticks online, but later issued full refunds and backtracked on her initial defensive statements as more complaints were posted, before ultimately shutting down her social media accounts.

Now, Hill is back online nearly one month after going silent online with a new video posted Tuesday titled “Where I’ve Been,” but it doesn’t necessarily address that:
“I really wanted to make a video because obviously I have deleted all of my social media accounts. I just want to start off by saying, this video might be the biggest mistake of my entire career, but that’s ok. I have had so many people tell me to not address anything, not talk about anything.”
The 29-year-old explains even though she was advised against making a video about what’s been going on behind closed doors, she felt it was necessary:
“Would you have some sort of conflict with someone you love, with a friend and then just let it blow over and just let them forget about it? Is that a good friend? I don’t think so. You guys have been through so much with me and I’m not going to all of a sudden not talk to you about something. My relationship with you guys is more important than you honestly understand. I’m just going to jump into it and start speaking from my heart.”
She admits failing as a brand and it’s time to swallow her pride:
“That’s why this whole thing has been so hard for me because I completely failed, I say it every day and I still choke on those words. My launch was a failure, it failed, it sucked. Honestly, I was so confident that I was almost cocky to be quite honest, because I was just like – this is going to be the best thing that people have ever seen, the best lipsticks the market has even seen. I was working with the best lab, the best people, I had spent all this money, I was just like this is amazing.”
Although she admits being at fault for not having a closer eye on the quality control of her line and not being more involved in the creation of her faulty lipsticks, she ultimately does not address where she’s been or what actually went wrong in the lab, saying:
“There are so many rumors out there which i’m not even going to address, honestly guys I’m not going to address them.”
What was the point of this video?!
Because of the fallout, Miz Hill explains she fired several members of her team and brought on new hires, and will be working with a new lab in the future to ensure her next launches are more successful.
Sharing what she’s learned from the process, she continues:
“I am beyond grateful for everything that I have learned throughout this process, it’s been a rough ride but I am honestly grateful for it. I have fired so many people and I have hired so many people. In this past month, I have built an entire new quality control team.”
The Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics founder further explains her Twitter and Instagram detox wasn’t because she was running away, but so she could take a break from obsessing over the news about her:
“I was obsessing over Twitter, obsessing over Instagram – I was obsessed with all of it. I had gotten to this place where I was so clouded and unable to rebuild my brand, unable to figure out what’s going on, and I knew in order to get right, in order to make my brand right I had to get me right. So I was just like – I can’t do this, I’m done, I need to deactivate everything, I need to have absolutely zero power to look at anything that’s going on because I need to focus.”
You could definitely just not Google yourself without deactivating your account… just sayin’!!
