Jaclyn Hill Defends The Quality Of Her Lipstick Line After Intense Backlash: 'My Lipsticks Are Not Moldy'

Jaclyn Hill responds to backlash

Jaclyn Hill is addressing the drama of her first lipstick launch, and this time, not in deleted tweets, but on her YouTube channel.
The popular beauty vlogger, who has nearly six million subscribers on the site, uploaded a video on Wednesday, tackling the controversy surrounding the quality of her brand Jaclyn Cosmetics, and ready to explain some of the issues she’s seen customers take to Twitter about!

As we reported, Jaclyn came under fire following the May 30 launch of her nude lipstick line, which featured 20 new shades. Some who purchased the product complained about poor quality, damaged orders, and broken lipsticks, while others reported on social media about seeing fuzzy hairs and possibly mold on theirs.

In her new, 14-minute long video, the 28-year-old explained to her millions of followers:

“I want to address some of the issues that my customers are having with my first launch of my brand, Jaclyn Cosmetics, and my lipsticks. I’m not gonna run away from this. I know it’s taken me a couple days to get all my ducks in a row and get this video out for you guys, but I have been going through all the documentation, and on the phone with labs and chemists and the owner of my lab and my entire team for several days, and doing a very in-depth investigation to figure out exactly what’s going on so I can give you the most informed information as a brand owner.”

Getting down to the nitty gritty, Jaclyn defended her products are entirely safe. Sharing laboratory analysis reports and a hygiene policy statement from her company, the makeup guru spilled:

“The first thing I want to address before anything else is the accusations that my lipsticks are expired, moldy or hazardous in any way, shape or form. My lipsticks are not moldy, they are not contaminated, they are not unsafe for you in any way shape or form. Every single ingredient in my lipsticks is new and FDA approved.”

But she of course had to explain the black dots customers were seeing on their lipsticks, along with the fuzzies:

“What these black dots are, are actually oxygen bubbles and they are lifting to the surface when my lipstick bullet is being cooled off from a hot temp. Sometimes they don’t make it all the way through — it is oxygen and 100% safe.”

The YouTuber added:

“My lab used white cotton gloves…they were cleaning vats with a towel. Those two things combined with the white fuzzies coming off of their gloves — it is so unacceptable.”

Hill shared she is no longer working with the same lab that helped launch her line, but she’ll be “making things right for my customers.”

“This is my first launch, and it’s very embarrassing. Contact [email protected]… show them proof, we will take care of everything for you and make it right.”

Meanwhile, a day earlier, a spokesperson from Jaclyn Cosmetics released a statement to ET:

“The response to the launch of Jaclyn Cosmetics has been incredible. Of the incredible volume of orders that were placed at launch, we believe less than half of one percent of orders were impacted by compromised product. We are actively reaching out to our customers with questions and concerns and have added to our customer service team to make sure that any questions are swiftly addressed.”

Clearly this isn’t how the makeup artist wanted her first launch to go, but she sounds positive about making things right.
Think she’ll be able to bounce back from this, Perezcious readers??
